Winter's Window by Adam Parrish <myth@alinc.com>

Thanks for downloading this ZIP file. There's not much here: it's
mostly just this text file, the POV source, and a couple of .GIFs I thought
might show how the scene was built. Please tell me what you think!

	CONTENTS OF APWINDOW.ZIP
	------------------------
	README.TXT	This file
WINDOW.POV	The original, genuine source file
WINDOWx.GIF	Progressive images of the construction of the
			window lattice
WINDOWxx.GIF	Larger versions of the above

Now, for a bit about this image. Not much to tell, actually. I
thought of several other ideas before this one, but they all seemed
unsatisfactory (one was a hall of mirrors, the other was a heightfield of some
sort, colored with a glass texture. bleah). The idea for this image, however,
caught my mind and I went with it.
The scene was done without a modeller. Not a particularly difficult
task, but it did take some work for a busy young student like myself. And a
lot of yelling from my brothers and sisters ("ADAM, you've been on the
computer for 5 hours already! Get off so I can play DOOM!@#!@%@#$%" etc.).
And, most of all, a lot of patience and frustration. However, I think it was
worth the effort -- I know more about povray, computer graphics, mathematics,
stained glass, architecture, and the physics of light than I ever knew before.
I had to cut a few corners as the deadline was fast approaching. The
final render (which didn't turn out as well as I had hoped) took 9 hours
(well, 17 if you count the 8 hour mistake I rendered overnight). Obviously,
not a complex scene, but in the end, at least not an *ugly* scene.
If you have any questions about how I did any of this stuff, or WHY I
did stupid things in the source, please e-mail me at myth@alinc.com. Thanks!
Oh, and I'd also like to thank Carter Wennerstrom for lending me the
graph paper (though he'll never see this). And thanks to donna.s@niestu.com
(sorry, I didn't catch your name <g>) for reminding me that I like
raytracing. :)

                                           Good luck and happy modelling,
                                                Adam Parrish

(btw, yenny, *ugly* is (nar)) (don't ask)
