IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

A submarine remains protected by one phase of water while avoiding
another phase.

*For any submariners out there, the cavitation is artistic license
only.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

The submarine is based on a design I completed for a submarine design
course at MIT last summer. It is a body of revolution hull, generated
using a cubic spline lathe. The conformal Sonar array, and propulsor
shroud are scaled CSG intersections of the hull. The cavitation is
just semirandomly placed mirror spheres.

The iceberg is an asteroid generated by John Beale's program
'orb'. The ocean surface is a very large polygon, with one edge placed
perpendicular to the camera direction.

I will happily share the source code for this picture, but the height
field and include file for the iceberg are rather large, so the source
code is not included.
