IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

The idea was to translate from the vocabulary of painting to the vocabulary of
ray-tracing Winslow Homer's painting "Gulf Stream". I think the painting
sublimates one of the great primitive dreads into a more universal statement. I
hoped to bring attention to this 19th century blend of grit and beauty.
Unfortunately, even with a whole year to work with, I ran out of time. The
label by the painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY mentions that
Homer began the painting in October 1899. It doesn't say when he finished.
