IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

Forgive the somewhat loose connection to the topic--this is my first entry, and
I wanted to be original. Yes, it was tempting to submit some boring Bryce and
Terragen images, but there should be quite enough nice outdoor scenes in this
round.

In the foreground lies a book and some drawings. Outside the window, there's a
streetlight, trash cans, and some garbage. The only wilderness that remains is
inside--on paper.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

All objects in the scene were modeled in Rhinoceros.

The landscape in the book was created in Terragen. It was resized and text was
added in Paint Shop (the text is a journalist's description of Yosemite in
1864). The cover on the book was given a noise bump-map, to make it seem like
leather.

For the drawings, I scanned a pair of actual drawings I did (the drawing
partially covered by the book is some boulders and rock arches). All other
textures in the scene are stock Max textures.

I wanted the urban evironment to be a bit more obviously stated, like a
cityscape in the window. I couldn't get it to look quite right, so I settled
for some trash cans.
