IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
This ship is loosely based on the USS Constitution.
I took many pictures of it when I was in Boston and I plan to do more
detailing in the future. It's the oldest ship still in service anywhere.
The sailing rig shown was the only one being used at the time. The
money from donations and admission to the ship was being used to buy
sails.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
    The ship's hull was built
with extruded sections. It is hollow with two decks below. If I
didn't plan on making this a future project I would have taken
the easy way out and just made one solid shape. I made the first
mast assymbly with cylinders and extruded circles as poles and
curved ropes. I duplicated and enlarged the masts after finishimg
the first one. The sails are extruded rectangles that are very tall
but very thin.
The sea is made of two duplicate mesh files in the Four Elements
part of Ray Dream Studio. I created them to look like rolling waves.
One partially pushes up through the other. The top one has more
transparency and a lighter texture. Both use a natural spotted
bump map rather than the "official" water bump map from Four Elements.
I also deformed both meshes with a planar wave deformation- one
slightly more than the other.
I also used Four Elements for the sky. I wanted a more impressive
and violent sky than a regular natural looking one.
My goal was to create a picture similar to the maritime paintings
of the 1800's. I hope to do more with this model.
