IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

I originally started out with a desert-and-water theme... IE boats and
fishs swimming
in a desert, with the camera above the water. As I was creating the sperm whale
and the
submarine, I was struck by the contrast of the two. Both are water-born
creatures, yet one is
organic and the other artificial. Both are hunters, yet one kills for food, and
the other for
less tangible reasons. So I abandoned the desert idea, and produced a meeting
of three whales
and a sub in a shallow sea.

Is it a chance meeting in the middle of the ocean? Are they studing
each other, asking
questions that other cannot answer? Or are they simply hunting their own prey?

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

Both the submarine and the sperm whale were created in Spatch and
exported to .inc
files. I had to do some scaling of the sperm whale (about 50 meters) to make it
smaller than
the sub (about 100 meters). The hardest part was the ocean fogging. I tried to
make it work
with media statements, but I am not that skilled yet. So I used a standard fog.
 And, yes, it
is supposed to be dark. These are hunters who hunt by sound, not sight.
Lighting is a standard
area light, for sort of a fuzzy feeling.
