IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

A disciple of an ancient but now sparse cult discovers the prize of his
religious belief, the box of secrets. He eagerly sets the box in his crude
private temple and begins the incantation which he hopes will reveal the secret
of the ages. As he progresses through the ritual, he feels the energy forming
within the box, and emanating outward...Is it really what he believes it is, or
has he inadvertently triggered something beyond his control..? As his
confidence wavers, the box begins seems to vibrate.....

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

This is my first ever submission to this competition. A work colleague uses
Lightwave for his work and I have managed to convince him to let me play with
it when he is not using it, and here is my first real attempted work. I hope
you think its ok. I learnt modelling on an old version Truespace some time ago
and have always wanted to play with the higher end packages.

All models were created by myself from scratch. Only the head and arms exist for
the disciple, the head proved quite challenging and I wouldn't call it good,
however from a distance it looks ok. The textures for the head and cloak are
all UV mapped images, with the cloak layering some fractal and crumple
textures. The monks hair is simply a flat plane bent over the monks head with a
colour mapped image of hair and a similar transparency map.

The volumetric lighting emanating from the box took me the longest of anything.
I think I could have spent 2 months simply tweaking those settings however I'm
reasonably happy with the effect achieved.

If I was a quicker modeller I could have put more items in the room, however,
I'm nowhere as efficient as I should be and I have run out of time.

I have not included any source files as even when all ZIPped up, it was quite
large. I would be happy to give the entire project directories to anyone
wanting them though, just drop me some mail...
