IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
When this picture was shown to family and friends there were
so many different interpretations that I am now letting the
image stand without my "two cents."

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
The blue and red votive candle
holders are extrusions with small discs added to create the bumps. There is a
candle in each one but not a flame. The flame is the basic raydream primitive
accompanied with a light source. The mechanical hands are complex arrangements
of extruded forms. The finger joints were designed as units with the center
point at the end closest to the main body so that I could bend the joints by
rotating them around their centers. I used a complicated procedure to texture
the thumbs - I duplicated the main parts and used a texture with transparent
spots (holes) over another texture made with a photo of the inside of my
pentium 233 which hasn't had a cover since last June.
The Budha figure was made with spheres, some more transparent than others. The
marble texture I used had to be enlarged or diminished to fit each sphere so
that it looked like one unit. The Menorah is just a bunch of extrusions and
lathed forms. The Crescent Moon and Star symbol is made of a star primitive
and exrtuded form. The Cross is also extruded forms. The statue of Shiva and
the Budhist mask from Nepal were both made from the same process. I used
SuperMesh from Zenstar to convert a grey scale picture to a 3d form. I started
with a regular tif and converted it to grey scale, blackened the background
and using the 256 shades as clay, with white the tallest and black the lowest,
sculpted the 3d object. The backs of the mask and statue are flat and I had to
remove the objects from a square flat plate by boolean subtraction. By running
Picture Publisher and Raydream (Supermesh is run from Raydream) simultaneously
I was able to sculpt and then see the result almost immediately. I used a
color tiff of the objects to make a texture that fit perfectly.
I enjoyed making the picture but did not envision the end result,
it sort of made itself; it is not a statement - just art to make you think.
