IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

The ancient "Temple of the Golden Buddha" somewhere in Cambodia.
The temple was flooded long time ago and only Buddha statues are still visible
above the water level.
The image seems to show only 2 Buddhas...
Well, the third Buddha is a virtual image created by the telescope.
If this explanation does not work for you, consider the observer being the third
Buddha (after all we all have the buddha-nature.)

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I am new to raytracing and just started using POV-Ray 3.1 program - and I am
very impressed!
At first I just wanted to test POV-Ray's ability to refract light.
I have seen sample models with a magnifying glass and a crystal ball.
I decided to check if the program would allow me to create a working telescope.
I created a convex and concave lens and made a telescope similar to the first
telescope of Galileo.
The eyepiece lens was built as the difference of cylinder and sphere.
and the magnifying lens was created as intersection of cylinder and sphere.
By trial and error I found the best IOR value and correct relative position of
the
camera, 2 lenses and the statue. And it worked! I was impressed with the program
-and myself.
Both Buddhas are at the same distance from the camera (compare the heads) - this
way I could test the power of my telescope.
