IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

Surrealism is a movement in visual art and literature which started in Europe
between World Wars I and II. Most people knows about surrealist painters
such as Max Ernst, Ren_ Magritte, Salvador Dal_, Paul Delvaux and Joan Mir_ for
example.
But the art of painting is known since centuries and the new tool of the XXe
century is photography.

I saw on a periodical (that I lost few days after) a picture from an
photographer showing a
spherical niche with and head-and-shoulder statue in it and a spherical ball,
all perfectly aligned.
First rendering was done (http://www.webkenya.com/images/pov/pov.html) easily
and I was at this time
ready to submit for the first time my pic at IRTC

I got the final idea after visiting the Man Ray website and noticed that nudity
and photomontage
were two important elements of his work. I then added a woman chest and worked
with different
layer of image to have an effect identical than the one camera have for doing
photomontage (that
is taking multiple pictures on one film)

I finally wanted to add a texture to the film, like if the film has been eaten
into by chemicals
with time.

The final result corresponds to what I was expected that is a typical surrealist
photomontage
picture eaten with time.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

The pov file is using a switch clock to render three different scenes.
The two first scenes is rendering images which are used in the last scene to
render the final image.

A. The first scene
------------------
The first scene is composed of :
1/ a wall with a spherical niche
2/ a head statue done in Spatch (it is a modified version of the Head tutorial
of Matkovitch who
did great thing with this modeller) and the hair are done using a isosurface
3/ a ball
4/ a colonnade (taken from my first "ugly" macro - december 2001)
5/ a woman chest done also with Spatch

All texture are smooth and different for each object
The camera has a small focal-blur to add a realistic effect of photo.

B. The second scene
-------------------
The second scene is similar to the first one except that only the woman chest
and the ball are
rendered

C. The third scene
------------------
The third scene is composed of two layers of the first image and one layer of
the second image.
Each layer has a "filter all" and "transmit all" value and are scaled and
translate to create
the photomontage. An hollow sphere with an agate pigment_map has been added
around the camera to
give an old sepia texture (with gold and white).
Finally, an other layer has been added to give the texture of a film eaten by
chemical and it is
just a plane with wood pigment_map which has different transmit and filter value
ans give this
nice blue-red-black effect around the picture leaving the central part dark
gray.

The hardest part of the work has been to get the correct texture as I had to
change many times
the filter and transmit setting to get the correct effect (and yet, is it
perfect ??)

Evolution of my work is available at http://www.webkenya.com/images/pov/pov.html
and pov2.html
