IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

A big silver thing strides across a landscape, pondering how to get beyond some
boundary, a barrier it created for itself in a time it has mercifully almost
forgot.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I had the cubes idea in my head for a long time, after an oil I did in 1986.The
julia fractals are somethings I used to play with for animations and strange
clouds, but I was never able to really make heads or tails of them. This one
started as cloud striding across the landscape in front of the barrier wall,
but ended up standing as you see here. The sky was just a matter of trial and
error, as just about everything in POV is: translate, render, scale, render,
etc etc etc. The landscape was generated with a freeware version of
WorldMachine.

I usually just use the old default colors that came with the old default POV. I
use an old version of POV because some trick version finally came out that made
you save a file before you could render, which seemed whacky considering how
many times you had to move something around with coding before you got it in
the right place. I did this image completely in POV, in a couple of hours,
realizing after the last competition that simply spending hundreds of hours on
an image and the quality of the result wouldn't matter if I used an expensive
program. I respect that. Here this is.
