IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
A scene of extreme simplicity, three white eggs on a white
plate.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
My goal was to make a minimalist
scene, rather than a scene about minimalist art. I used POVray almost entirely,
using Moray mostly for figuring out the textures, and PhotoPaint for editing
image maps and converting the scene to jpg. The eggs were made using the
Assymetrical Scaling Macro, by Julius Klatte. The scene was so simple to make
that I had plenty of time to experiment with textures and lighting. I used
radiosity and area lights in an attempt to make it look as realistic as
possible. The table is an image map made from a photo of the same old
unvarnished walnut table that I work at on my laptop. I also used image maps of
the room, in order to add color in the reflections on the plate. I used area
lights of slightly varying color and placed them where the windows would be in
the room. I used a granite gradient normal map on the eggs to get the slightly
rough texture of the eggshells, with very rough texture on the ends, which I
noticed was a common occurrance on the eggs I looked at. I set the antialias
depth to 6, to make sure that the subtle texture of the eggshells would be
fully visible.
