IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

        Fire and Ice

        Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

Like always, I used no external modeller, everything
was done in pure POV.

I started out creating the room the scene is in. I used one box each for every
wall, the floor and celing. The window was cut out of the wall +z.

The window, is made of one box, textured like glass. The spars are, again, each
a box. The frosted effect is created using gradients and turblulance.

The table was created using boxes for the legs and for the table top. It was
textured using a wood pattern with a light gloss finish.

Paper is made of a box! I textured it with a poem by "Robert Frost". Its name
is "Fire and Ice", I wonder why I picked this poem? I really hate texturing
with external images, but it had to be done this way.

I made the candle using a cone for the basic shape. I merged it with a sphere
to give the roundness at the top near the flame. The base is the difference of
a cylinder and a sphere. It hase a cylinder merging with the base of the
candle. I finished the candle holder with a brass texture. The candle was a
wax texture.

The flame for the candle was particulary difficult. I first made a transparent
sphere and filled it with media. I gave it emissive properties and turbulence.
With proper tweaking and scaling, I ended up with a flame.

The outside drifts of snow where created using a heightfield based off a bozo
pigment. It was then textured with a white/blue pigment.

That is the basic foundation of this image.

I enjoy radiosity, that is the brut of the rendering time for this image. I set
it up to pre-trace many times, just to get an accurate lighting. Speaking of
lighting, the lighting in the image is produced by only the candle. Wouldn't
want an imaginary light souce would we?

1.23.06 - Another day of tweaking the image, I fixed the window panes. Instead
of having one large pane of glass, I made each individual peice of glass. I
also added more realistic looking frost to the glass. There are a total of
three different types of frost used on the glass, I may add more so none of the
panes look the same.

Well, I hope you enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed making it. I always
enjoy comments and feedback, they help me turn out better images in the
future.
